Matar Paneer
Ingredients

paneer - 1 lbs
ginger - 1" piece
garlic pods - 6 nos
onions - 2 nos (medium) or 400 gms (diced)
turmeric powder - 1 tsp
red chilli powder - 2 tsp
coriander powder - 1 ½ tbs
cumin powder - 1 tbs
tomatoes - 2 nos (large, chopped)
water or whey - 2 3/4 cups
green peas - 5 cups (canned or frozen)
garam masala powder - ½ tsp
vegetable oil - ½ cup
cilantro for garnishing
salt as required
Method

  • Grind ginger and garlic into a paste or crush them in a mortar and pestle.

  • Place pressure cooker on high heat and heat the oil.

  • When the oil is hot add onions and fry till golden brown.

  • Add prepared ginger and garlic and stir for a few seconds.

  • Add turmeric, chilli, coriander, and cumin powders, salt, tomatoes and 1/4 cup water or whey.

  • Stir occasionally and cook till tomatoes are pulpy and oil separates, about 5 mins.

  • Add peas and saute for about 2mins and add remaining water or whey.

  • Close cooker and bring to full pressure on high heat, then reduce heat and cook for another min.

  • Remove cooker from heat and release pressure by slightly lifting the vent weight.

  • Open cooker and place it on medium heat and add paneer.

  • Simmer for about 5 mins and stir in garam masala powder.

  • Serve hot garnished with cilantro.
